NBM snow accumulation demo for ski resorts
An NBM-based demo tracks snow and precipitation at ski resorts across North America.
On March 18, 2025, we released a ski resort snow accumulation demo powered by NBM.
What it shows
The dashboard summarizes probabilistic hourly snow and precipitation totals for resorts across North America:
- Hourly snow accumulation with probability curves (e.g., 90% or 95%).
- Running total of accumulated snow across the forecast window.
- Hourly precipitation (rain or snow) plus cumulative totals.
- Snow level probability, derived from the wet-bulb zero level to indicate where snow transitions to rain.
Snow level is reported in meters above mean sea level. If the resort elevation is higher than the snow level, interpret that as snow reaching the surface. Resort elevation is populated from HRRR data.
Why it is useful
This gives operations teams a quick view of likely snow totals, timing of bursts, and rain vs. snow risk without digging through raw model output.
