RRFS and RRFS Ensemble now supported

|

GribStream now serves NOAA's RRFS deterministic and 5-member ensemble datasets at convection-allowing resolution.

On July 24, 2025, we added NOAA's next-generation Rapid Refresh Forecast System (RRFS) plus the RRFS Ensemble (REFS) to GribStream.

What is included

  • RRFS deterministic (rrfsprslev): 3 km convection-allowing guidance with hourly cycles and up to 84-hour horizons.
  • RRFS ensemble (refsprslev): 5-member experimental ensemble with hourly cycles and up to 60-hour horizons.

Both datasets are accessible as JSON, CSV, or NDJSON via the standard API.

Why it matters

RRFS and REFS are NOAA's next-generation storm-scale guidance. They are designed for short-range, high-impact weather where convection, wind gusts, and rapid evolution matter most.

Experimental status

RRFS and REFS are still experimental. The current archive is limited (about 15 days), and fields or cadence may change as NOAA finalizes operations. We will backfill history when the systems become fully operational.
