Official source: MeteoHub lists ICON-2I as a public forecast dataset from Agenzia ItaliaMeteo in cooperation with Arpae Emilia-Romagna Idro-Meteo-Clima Service, licensed under CC BY 4.0 with attribution to ItaliaMeteo-ARPAE.

Operational scope: icon2i is the main 00/12 UTC deterministic ICON-2I regional forecast, with hourly lead times through 72 hours. For fresher first-day updates over the same domain, use icon2iruc.

Description

ItaliaMeteo ICON-2I is a high-resolution regional forecast for Italy and nearby areas. MeteoHub describes the source product as a 2.2 km deterministic forecast over 33N to 49N and 3E to 22E, giving customers a focused Italy domain instead of only sampling a global model over the peninsula.

That regional focus matters for applications exposed to the Alps, the Po Valley, the Apennines, complex coastlines, Sardinia, Sicily, and the surrounding seas. Global models remain essential for synoptic context, but ICON-2I gives Italy-specific products a denser regional signal to compare, blend, or display.

In GribStream, icon2i is the longer-range ICON-2I feed. Use it when the application needs a 72-hour regional forecast from the 00 or 12 UTC cycle. Use icon2iruc when the first-day product needs the freshest available regional cycle.

The inventory below lists the available variables and levels for this dataset. Choose the selectors that match your product, then query /api/v2/icon2i/timeseries for point workflows or /api/v2/icon2i/runs for gridded and run-based extraction.
