NOAA CFS models now available on GribStream

|

GribStream now supports the Climate Forecast System (CFS) with PGBF, FLXF, OCNF, and IPVF products back to 2018.

On February 8, 2025, we added the NOAA Climate Forecast System (CFS) to GribStream.

About CFS

CFS is a fully coupled global model that blends atmosphere, ocean, land, and sea ice. It is designed for extended-range and seasonal forecasting, with global coverage and long horizons.

Coverage

  • Forecast history from 2018 onward.
  • Four daily cycles, 6-hour steps, out to about 7 months (215 days).
  • 1.0 deg global grid.

Products now supported

  • PGBF: pressure-level atmospheric fields for vertical analysis.
  • FLXF: surface and radiative fluxes for energy-balance studies.
  • OCNF: ocean forecasts including SST, currents, and subsurface structure.
  • IPVF: isentropic-level fields for air-mass transport and dynamics.

Why it matters

CFS enables seasonal risk analysis, energy planning, ENSO monitoring, and climate signal extraction using consistent global runs and a long archive.
