Met Office Global Deterministic 10 km

GribStream Code: metofficeglobal10km

Met Office Global 10 km forecast schedule: 00 and 12 UTC cycles extend to 168 hours with hourly, three-hourly and six-hourly steps; selected fields in 06 and 18 UTC cycles were observed through 69 hours
Forecast-step guide for metofficeglobal10km, not a weather map. The +69 endpoint for the shorter cycles reflects inspected source objects; published summaries differ. Only indexed and available records are queryable.

A global forecast from the Met Office

The Met Office Global Deterministic model brings another physics-based global forecast to the same GribStream query interface used for GFS and ECMWF IFS. Its roughly 10 km output covers the world, not just the United Kingdom.

The initial collection focuses on six surface fields for point forecasts, weather dashboards and matched-run model comparisons. This is a single deterministic forecast, not an ensemble or a calibrated probability product.

Included fields

Do not substitute a 2 m above ground selector for the screen-level fields. Their native height is 1.5 m. Precipitation, cloud, radiation, pressure-level fields, UKV and the MOGREPS ensembles are outside this initial collection.

Cycles and forecast steps

Forecast reference times are 00, 06, 12 and 18 UTC. The 00 and 12 UTC cycles extend to 168 hours: hourly through +54, every three hours from +57 to +144, then every six hours from +150 to +168. The shorter 06 and 18 UTC cycles currently include the selected fields through +69 in the inspected source objects. Published Met Office summaries differ on the short-cycle endpoint, so query available records rather than assuming every step is present.

A cycle time is the start of the forecast, not its publication time. The upstream registry describes a typical delay of three to six hours.

History and source terms

Indexed history: forecast runs from 21 January 2026 at 12 UTC onward, for all six fields, while retained in the upstream rolling two-year archive. This is the first cycle supported by the current reader; earlier objects use a different layout.

The initial historical backfill is complete. The 8 September 2026 audit covered 920 cycles through the 06 UTC run that day. It found 52 missing source files in the 6 July 12 UTC and 7 July 06 UTC cycles; these files were also absent from the upstream bucket. GribStream serves only runs that have been indexed, and individual fields or forecast steps can be missing. The source retention window continues to roll forward, so this is not a permanent archive or a guarantee that every upstream run exists.
