DMI HARMONIE DINI Surface Forecasts

GribStream Code: dmidini

DMI DINI 2 meter temperature across the complete Northwestern Europe grid
DMI DINI 2 m temperature across its complete populated 2 km Northwestern Europe and North Atlantic footprint, with black country boundaries. This plot was generated from the dmidini dataset.

Current GribStream source: dmidini is a selective moving-window mirror of DMI Open Data HARMONIE_DINI_SF, focused on surface solar, wind, and basic meteorological context.

Scope note: This page covers the deterministic DINI surface product. DMI also publishes DINI pressure-level, model-level, EPS means, EPS percentiles, EPS probabilities, and IG products for Iceland/Greenland as separate source products; those are not part of dmidini yet.

Wind-vector note: DMI documents the U/V wind components as relative to the Lambert projection. GribStream preserves those source components; rotate them before deriving Earth-relative wind direction or vectors in another coordinate reference system.

Description

DMI HARMONIE DINI is Danish Meteorological Institute's high-resolution regional forecast product for Northwestern Europe. DMI describes DINI as the HARMONIE domain covering Denmark, Iceland, Netherlands, and Ireland, with ECMWF boundary conditions and a 2 km grid.

In GribStream, dmidini starts with the surface fields most useful for application builders: solar radiation, 10 m and 100 m wind, cloud, temperature, humidity, visibility, pressure, and accumulated precipitation. It complements global models such as IFS and GFS by exposing finer regional structure over the DINI domain.

The product is especially interesting for energy and operations teams. Solar fields help estimate short-range irradiance conditions, while 100 m U/V wind components provide context closer to turbine hub-height workflows than a standard 10 m surface wind alone.

DMI uses one source name for each parameter and statistical processing to distinguish instantaneous, accumulated, maximum, and minimum series. GribStream keeps those names visible: for example, dswrf with empty info is instantaneous downward shortwave flux in W/m^2, while info = "acc" is energy accumulated from run start in J/m^2. Only accumulated dswrf and direct-solar-exposure begin at lead time 1 hour; other available accumulated fields retain DMI's lead-zero value.
