Current coverage: five NOAA Level 2 full-disk product families begin April 8, 2025. The four FDCF fire fields begin July 10, 2026; earlier FDCF scans are not currently included. These are observation-derived analyses, not forecasts; forecasted_at and forecasted_time identify the same scan and horizon is 0.

Stable GOES-East record: coverage begins with the first full UTC day after GOES-19 entered operational service in the GOES-East slot. Earlier checkout and orbital-drift data are excluded so this dataset uses the operational fixed grid centered at 75W.

Availability and open data: new observations depend on NOAA's satellite feed, so maneuvers, calibration, outages, and product transitions can create gaps. NOAA data distributed through its Open Data program are available for public use; attribution is requested and NOAA endorsement must not be implied.

Description

ABI, the Advanced Baseline Imager, observes the GOES-East disk in 16 spectral bands. The cloud and moisture imagery fields combine those calibrated channels into a consistent full-disk view, from visible reflectance through water-vapor and infrared brightness temperatures.

The derived Level 2 fields turn those radiances into application-focused observations: fire detections and radiative power, aerosol optical depth, downward shortwave radiation, quantitative precipitation estimates, and sea-surface temperature. Together they connect storm, smoke, energy, hydrology, and ocean-monitoring workflows in one fixed-grid dataset.

Each retrieval has limits. Several products depend on daylight, clear-sky conditions, cloud screening, or assumptions about atmospheric and surface properties. Viewing geometry and footprint size degrade toward the limb. Fire detections are not a substitute for incident confirmation, and temperature or aerosol retrievals can be absent under clouds or outside their valid domain.

Use /api/v2/goes19abi/timeseries for point histories and /api/v2/goes19abi/runs for exact scan times or gridded extraction. The generated inventory below lists all 24 selectors and their source units.
