CCPA, the Climatologically Calibrated Precipitation Analysis, is NOAA/NCEP's precipitation analysis product for estimating recent accumulated precipitation over the continental United States. This GribStream dataset exposes the one-hour accumulation product on the 2.5 km National Digital Guidance Database grid.
The science behind CCPA is aimed at preserving the useful spatial and temporal structure of high-resolution precipitation analyses while reducing longer-term bias against a gauge-based climatological reference. That makes it valuable as more than a display layer: it is a practical truth field for precipitation verification, hydrologic monitoring, quality control, and training workflows that need recent rainfall on a consistent CONUS grid.
Use CCPA when the question is what precipitation was analyzed over the last hour, not what a model predicts. It pairs naturally with forecast datasets such as HRRR, NBM, GFS, and RAP for QPF verification, error tracking, event studies, and post-event rainfall diagnostics.
